StatSheet's NEC Player of the Week for January 21st goes to Sacred Heart's Shane Gibson. StatSheet's NEC Freshman of the Week is Brandon Peel from Central Connecticut State. Also, Bryant's Joe O`Shea has won StatSheet's NEC 6th Man of the Week. Gibson registered great stats in shooting (50%), rebounding (5.5 per game), and three pointers (3 per game). The Sacred Heart senior played well for the Pioneers in a victory against St. Francis (PA) and an unfortunate loss to Robert Morris.
Gibson topped all scoring and rebounding for the Pioneers with 27 points and 6 rebounds in a 66-62 loss to Robert Morris. He then led all scoring with 23 points and added 5 rebounds in a narrow 75-72 win against St. Francis (PA).
Shane Gibson has been named StatSheet NEC Player of the Week one other time this season. The runner-up this week is senior Jamal Olasewere from Long Island. Honorable mention goes to Bryant junior Alex Francis. Earl Brown, who finished 11th, was the highest ranking player from St. Francis (PA).
StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week: Central Connecticut State's Brandon Peel
Brandon Peel averaged 35 minutes of playing time as a starter for Central Connecticut State. He bested all NEC freshmen in both rebounding (9.5 per game) and blocked shots (1.5 per game). In a 73-66 win over Wagner, Peel topped the Blue Devils in rebounding with 8 and tossed in 3 blocked shots. Then in an 80-75 loss to Mount St. Mary's, he led rebounding with 11 and added 3 assists.
This marks the second time this season that Brandon Peel has won the StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week. De`Aires Tate from Sacred Heart grabs runner-up. Christian White from Monmouth takes honorable mention. The highest ranking freshman from St. Francis (PA) was Ben Millaud-Meunier who finished 5th.
StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week: Bryant's Joe O`Shea
Joe O`Shea, a sophomore and a 6-4 guard, averaged 26 minutes of action over two games for the Bulldogs. In a close 79-78 win over Mount St. Mary's, O`Shea put up 4 assists and 60% shooting. Then in a strong 82-59 victory against Wagner, he racked up 12 points and 2 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week win for Joe O`Shea. Sam Prescott, a junior guard from Mount St. Mary's, is runner up. Ousmane Drame, a sophomore forward from Quinnipiac, receives honorable mention. St. Francis (PA) players have not yet been named StatSheet NEC Player of the Week this season.
