Sacred Heart's Shane Gibson has won the StatSheet NEC Player of the Week award for the week ending January 28th. Eric Fanning from Wagner has won StatSheet's NEC Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Quinnipiac's Shaq Shannon is StatSheet's NEC 6th Man of the Week.
Gibson led the all of the NEC in scoring (29.5 pts per game) and free throws (10.5 per game). He also put up 50% shooting, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 4 three pointers per game. The Sacred Heart senior played well in wins against Bryant and Monmouth.
Gibson led the Pioneers in scoring with 26 points and added 6 rebounds in an 87-76 win over Bryant. He followed that up with a team-leading 33 points plus an additional 5 rebounds in an 82-68 victory over Monmouth.
This is one of three StatSheet NEC Player of the Week awards for Shane Gibson. The runner-up this week is Louis Montes, a junior from Sacred Heart. Honorable mention goes to Jamal Olasewere, a senior from Long Island.
StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week: Wagner's Eric Fanning
Eric Fanning was on the floor an average of 24 minutes starting both games for Wagner. In a late 52-50 win over Mount St. Mary's, Fanning led all scoring for the Seahawks with 12 points and all rebounding with 7. Following that in a massive 81-56 win against St. Francis (PA), he added 15 points and 5 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week award for Eric Fanning. The runner-up is Stephan Hawkins from Robert Morris. Honorable mention goes to Tevin Falzon from Sacred Heart. Ben Millaud-Meunier, who finished 5th, was the highest ranking freshman for St. Francis (PA).
StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week: Quinnipiac's Shaq Shannon
Junior Shaq Shannon, a 6-1 guard, averaged 26 minutes over two games for the Bobcats. In an 85-78 win against Central Connecticut State, Shannon led the scoring for the Bobcats with 18 points on 60% shooting. After that, in a last-minute 58-56 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, he racked up 12 points and 6 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week honor for Shaq Shannon. Terrell Allen, a junior forward from Central Connecticut State, is runner up. Marcus Ware, a senior forward from Monmouth, earns honorable mention. Anthony Ervin finished 5th and was the highest ranking 6th man from St. Francis (PA). St. Francis (PA) has yet to win StatSheet NEC Player of the Week.
